Kennedy denies affair with Kopechne in new memoir
WASHINGTON – Sen. Edward M. Kennedy said in a new book that he was not romantically involved with young Mary Jo Kopechne and that he never escaped the despair he felt after she died in the 1969 car crash that has been seared into the national consciousness as "Chappaquiddick."...
***Of course there was no romance involved: he just intended to have sex with her, probably in his car, and there was no chance to consummate even that limited goal with both ( but certainly Kennedy ) likely drunk. Even more than "what the meaning of 'is' is."****
Possibly It Shortened Her Life, Too by Jas Taranto.... "In a memoir being published this month, Senator Edward M. Kennedy called his behavior after the 1969 car accident that killed Mary Jo Kopechne 'inexcusable' and said the events might have shortened the life of his ailing father, Joseph P. Kennedy."--New York Times, Sept. 3
****Why do the words of Hilaire Belloc come to mind?
"Here richly, with ridiculous display
The Politician's corpse was laid away.
While all of his acquaintances sneered and slanged,
I wept, for I had longed to see him hanged."
