Dueling Environmentalists: Greens are splitting into different shades

Greens are against nuclear power; but nuclear power is the only power source that is "carbon-free." Some are conflicted but the nuclear issue so far trumps the carbon issue.

Solar and wind power would seem to be unexceptionable to Greens ( they don't mind the fact that these are thus far uneconomic ) but it was only a matter of time before someone noted that T.Boone Pickens' wind pathway coincided with the flight path of American raptors and that eagle-burgers would offend those who love eagles.

Now we see that there are defenders of the Mojave Desert who wish to stop both wind towers and solar mirrors from being placed there because it would destroy the pristine nature of the Mojave and also the desert turtle habitat ( although, unlike eagles, turtles are unlikely to be chopped up by wind blades and can probably circumnavigate solar installations, albeit slowly.)

Of course we have the Green Kennedys who espouse green power everywhere except when it might encroach on their views of Cape Cod ( actually, only their views from boats since the wind towers would be over the horizon for most land elevations. )

We also had John McCain, who was never there, sticking up for keeping  ANWR pristine while real outdoors types like Sarah Palin ( who also has the somewhat higher moral posture of being a local ) are for drilling in a small part of it.

We need a new palette of colors for the Greens who can't agree even with each other about what is the environment and what is good for it.
