Obama at Notre Dame; in fact all his speeches

Obama rhapsodizes and then slips in something blatantly untrue.5/18/09 ...or violent extremism; the spread of nuclear weapons or pandemic disease -- these things do not discriminate. They do not recognize borders. They do not see color. They do not target specific ethnic groups.... ***I suppose Obama doesn't think Muslim terrorists do this. ****
And part of the problem, of course, lies in the imperfections of man -- our selfishness, our pride, our stubbornness, our acquisitiveness, our insecurities, our egos; all the cruelties large and small that those of us in the Christian tradition understand to be rooted in original sin. We too often seek advantage over others. ****This is pure Adam Smith, who showed it to be a good thing...Perhaps Obama doesn't know this. ****We cling to outworn prejudice and fear those who are unfamiliar.****Obama is again peddling this story that he tried out in San Francisco. *** Too many of us view life only through the lens of immediate self-interest and crass materialism; in which the world is necessarily a zero-sum game. ****If ever someone thinks in terms of a zero-sum game it's a redistributionist like Obama. Better would be a non-zero-sum approach to create a rising tide to lift all boats.****...... The soldier and the lawyer may both love this country with equal passion, and yet reach very different conclusions on the specific steps needed to protect us from harm. ****Lawyers? Loving their country as much as soldiers? The Code of Professional Conduct doesn't even recognize any allegiance equal to that of a lawyer's client (although the lawyer is not supposed "knowingly" to LIE to a court).****...As citizens of a vibrant and varied democracy, how do we engage in vigorous debate? How..., without,...demonizing those with just as strongly held convictions on the other side? ****Wasn't it Obama who has been demonizing bond-holders as "speculators"? Castigating those who "cling to guns and their religion"? **** It's no coincidence that it exists in Christianity and Judaism; in Islam and Hinduism; in Buddhism and humanism. It is, of course, the Golden Rule -- the call to treat one another as we wish to be treated. The call to love. ****Does Islam really have a Golden Rule? Convert or die, apostasy punishable by death, "we love death more than you love life", destruction of the Buddha statues by the Taliban? *****The line about lawyers is especially apposite considering Geithner's testimony on Wednesday about the TARP where he says his lawyers are studying the "design" of the TARP and think that Treasury can return received monies back to the taxpayers but STILL HAS A CALL ON THEM FOR FURTHER TARP-LIKE ACTION. This gives Treasury a slush fund so that it doesn't have to go back to Congress. Senators were aghast since that was clearly NOT the intent of the legislation but the first impulse of lawyers ( or those who employ them ) is to take an agreed contract or legislation and IMMEDIATELY look for loopholes counter to the clear intent of the original.
